Naga Sadhus at Khumbh takes the vow to quit smoking

The most prized possession which naga sadhus posses is ‘Chillum’ (clay pipes used for smoking). But now, these sadhus have decided to give up their Chillum.

After having a conversation with yoga guru Baba Ramdev, they have even taken a pledge to quit smoking. This decision was taken after Baba Ramdev gave many examples of Hindu deities who stayed away from smoking when they took human form on earth.

The only possessions which naga sadhus have are holy beads, garlands and Chillum. These sadhus smoke chillum in order to stay warm in the cold climates.

Ramdev met these sadhus after completing his yoga classes in at the Kumbh Mela, he asked chillums from those sadhus as a part of ‘Guru Dakshina’.

“Several sadhus took pledge for quiting smoking, I was really happy to see a positive response from those sadhus for ‘Nashamukt Bharat’ (addiction-free India). I asked them if they have ever seen or read in any scripture or holy book where it says hindu deities were indulged in any unhealthy activities”, Ramdev said.

He further added that they were also able to understand the negative effect, which was harming their health.

“Of course! You can stay with me, I’m not married” BABA RAMDEV TO JOURNALIST

Robert F. Worth shares his experience with Swami Ramdev

“He rose and greeted me with a hug. I was struck by his slight stature; his bushy black beard, grey at the fringes, seemed more substantial than his thin frame. He emanated a loose-jointed warmth, like someone who has just run a long distance. Apart from his thin saffron robes — one wrapped around his chest and one at the waist — he wore only padukas, the traditional platform wooden clogs with a metal post for the toes to grip. When I asked him if I could follow him around for a day or two, he seemed delighted. “Of course! You can stay with me,” he said, gesturing at the house behind us, where he sleeps on a pallet on the floor. “I’m not married. But don’t worry, I’m not homosexual!” He burst into raucous laughter and added, “I’m against homosexuality!” The laughter got even louder, and he added under his breath, “Just kidding.” I was baffled for a moment, and then found myself marvelling at his legerdemain.

As a Hindu monk, Ramdev has repeatedly declared his disapproval of homosexuality, calling it “immoral and unnatural.” He says it can be cured by yoga. But he has the politician’s gift for charming his audience. In a single, East-meets-West moment, he had both deferred to tradition and hinted to me that he was a closet liberal. He was also kidding about the offer to sleep on his floor, as it turned out.

Ramdev told me his nationalist vision embraces all religions and castes, but he added a revealing caveat. “Country first,” he said. “This is a must. Not, ‘I’m great, my caste is great,’ but my country is great. Unlike Muslim leaders — they say Islam is great. I say, No: The nation is great, the citizen is great.” And the nation, in Ramdev’s telling, is subtly twinned with a history and culture that is distinctly Hindu: yoga, ayurvedic medicine and the ancient Vedic scriptures from which they are said to have emerged.

Patanjali’s entry into telecom sector
Patanjali on Sunday entered the telecom sector. Ramdev launched Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards, in alliance with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Initially, only the employees and office bearers of Patanjali will be able to avail the benefits of the SIM card.

After its full-fledged launch, people will get discount of 10 per cent on Patanjali products with this card. Just with the recharge of Rs 144, one would be able to make unlimited calls across the country, get 2 GB data pack and send 100 SMSs. Apart from this, people will also get health, accidental and life insurances. Speaking on the occasion, Ramdev said government-owned BSNL is a ‘Swadeshi network’ and the motive of both Patanjali and BSNL is the welfare of the country.

“There are five lakh counters of BSNL and from there people can soon get Patanjali swadeshi-samradhi card,” Ramdev said.
Talking about the company’s motive “prosperity for charity”, he further said that in addition to attractive data and call package, the card also comes with the medical and life insurance covers of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.
However, the covers could only be availed in the case of road accident. Sunil Garg, BSNL Chief General Manager, who was also present here also praised the tie-up of Patanjali and BSNL.

“Patanjali’s plan is BSNL’s best plan. In Rs 144, one can make unlimited calls from any part of the country. We are giving 2 GB data pack, 100 SMSs. The members of the Patanjali has to just show their identity and there SIM will be activated soon after some paper work,” he said.

Ramdev to get 700cr UP’S mid-day meal contract

You will be surprised to know Patanjali has defeated Ponty Chaddha owned wave group in getting a mid-day meal contract worth 700 Cr. This would be another milestone for Patanjali which is now India’s fastest-growing consumer product company.

Ramdev and his associates have been actively lobbying for the Rs 700-crore contract in New Delhi, reaching out to influential cabinet ministers and making representations explaining why the group is best for executing this project.

The contract is currently being managed by 10 entities, including some NGOs. It offers Panjiri (a mixture of sugar, ghee and wheat), fruits and milk to over 10 crore students in India’s most populous state.

Just two months ago, Patanjali had won an exclusive contract to not just grow expensive Ayurvedic plants in Uttarakhand, but also fix their prices.

In April, the canteen stores department of the Indian defence forces stopped selling Patanjali’s amla juice after it found out that the product was “unfit for consumption”. Further, earlier this month, a local TV channel reported that Patanjali distributed expired products to flood victims in Majuli, Assam.

If the group wins the Uttar Pradesh mid-day meal contract, it will be celebrated as a major victory by the company. This contract will make Patanjali the sole distributor of high-protein food for the state schools. The officials of Haridwar-based Patanjali Ayurved were also lobbying with senior bureaucrats and ministers of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the state for the contract. The deadline for submission of tenders for the contract was extended to mid-October recently.

According to Patanjali’s spokesperson SK Tijarawala, the business decision is based on the company’s belief in “the importance of healthy food”. Tijarawala also said that Patanjali has some other mega plans, including a proposal to start fast food counters across India. According to him, there is huge International demand for acquiring franchisees of such vegetarian restaurants. He also denies any links to BJP and says that the mid-day meal contract is a “business decision”.

According to CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, Patanjali has created over 1,00,000 jobs in the state and besides creating the jobs, it has made a significant contribution to the development of Uttarakhand through his institutions. Over 100 children orphaned in the 2013 disaster stay at the Patanjali Seva Kendra. Once they complete their schooling, they will be sent to Patanjali University in Haridwar.

A long-time ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramdev is often seen with powerful politicians and businessmen. He also participates in Bollywood shows and appears regularly on television shows to discuss how yoga can cure urban stress and trauma.

For almost a year, Ramdev – who has no designation in the company and draws no salary – has been claiming he has the cure for AIDS.

However, it is noteworthy that in Uttarakhand, Patanjali’s apparent closeness with the government comes after former Congress CM Vijay Bahuguna lodged several cases against Ramdev.

Currently, the contract is with Liquor Barron Ponty Chaddha’s son, but supposedly, there are many loopholes found in it.

If Patanjali gets the contract, then it will become the largest consumer company to venture into the Mid-Day Meal. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state of India and almost 10 Crores students have their midday meal in the schools.

Undoubtedly, this would be a milestone for Patanjali.

Yog guru Baba Ramdev’s Wrestling Moves leave Olympic wrestler flat on the mat.

Aamir Khan’s critically-acclaimed film Dangal seems to have inspired yoga guru turned Ayurvedic entrepreneur, Baba Ramdev. Because on Wednesday, Baba Ramdev flexed some muscles, tightened his grip and defeated the 2008 Beijing Olympic silver medalist Andrey Stadnik in a promotional match for the 2017 Pro Wrestling League (PWL) in New Delhi. Baba Ramdev was sporting his trademark saffron langot and a pair of super cool running shoes.

Before the bout commenced, the Baba performed the Surya Namaskar and then walked on his two hands. He defeated Stadnik 12-0. Describing Baba Ramdev’s moves as “technical”, the Hindustan Times reported that he used various moves such as the take-down, one-leg hold and pinning down. After winning the match, Ramdev celebrated by shouting, “Bharat mata ki jai! Vande Matram!” In 2016, Ramdev had challenged Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar to a bout on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of his Ashram in Haridwar.

Indians can only ‘bark’ about banning Chinese products, Chinese media on Baba Ramdev campaign.

As the social media campaign calling to boycott the Chinese goods gains momentum, someone please thank Baba Ramdev for it, Beijing’s media said that products manufactured by Indian firms cannot compete with those of the China.

In a straight-forward op-ed, Chinese daily Global Times today said that New Delhi can only ‘bark’ and do nothing about the growing trade deficit between two countries.

“Indian manufacturing cannot compete at all with Chinese products, for various reasons,” it reads.

“There has been a lot of talk recently in the Indian media as well as on social media about boycotting Chinese products. It’s just rabble rousing,” it further reads.

China’s continued opposition to India’s effort to declare Pakistan-based militants as international terrorists has angered many Indians who have called for a boycott of Chinese products.

It all started with this tweet:

The article also described Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s pet project “Make in India” as “impractical”.

“India has enough money but the majority of it is concentrated with politicians, bureaucrats and a few crony capitalists. Indian elites don’t want to spend funds available in the country, which in reality is the taxpayers’ money but is utilized by the Indian establishment for its own personal consumption. Because of this, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started impractical schemes like ‘Make in India’. The reason is that the Indian establishment wants foreign companies to invest in the country,” it said,

The daily warned Chinese companies not to invest in India as it would be “suicidal” to put money in a country where corruption is high and the workforce is not hard working.

“It would be completely suicidal for Chinese companies to put their money in India by starting manufacturing projects there. The labour class in India is not very hard working or efficient,” it argued.

The daily said that instead of opening shops in India, Chinese companies should set up their manufacturing units in China.

The world’s third-largest smartphone maker, Huawei, opened its manufacturing unit in India last month.

“In any case, Indian businessmen flock to China in large numbers to buy products from China and sell them in India. This model suits China, so why disturb it by going and wasting money setting up manufacturing facilities in India? Let the Indian authorities bark about the growing trade deficit with China. The fact of the matter is they cannot do anything about it.”

It said that India was to yet build roads and highways and had chronic shortage of power and water supply.

“Worst of all, corruption is highly prevalent from top to bottom in every single government department,” it said.

The article also slammed India for courting the US and said, “The US is no one’s friend. The Americans are just indulging India in order to contain China, as the US is jealous of China’s development and global power.”

Wholesalers in India’s largest wholesale market Sadar Bazaar have already claimed that they are seeing a drop of at least 20 per cent in Chinese made products.

The Confederation of All India Traders recently predicted that the traders expect they will suffer at least 30 per cent loss due to the boycott of Chinese-made products.
