The Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede stadium saw a bizarre DRS decision favour Hardik Pandya, leaving Virat Kohli bemused.
Whether be it his animated celebrations or outing up a frustrating demeanour at a poor display, Virat Kohli has never shied away from expressing his heart on-field before the cameras. Wankhede saw one such instance on Tuesday when the RCB skipper left the field furious arguing with the officials.
CB had every reason to be upset at the end of the first innings after the hosts went on to post a mammoth target of 210 runs after starting the match by losing two quick wickets without even opening their account. Kohli’s restlessness and frustration couldn’t be hidden every time Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya went for the biggies. And to further add to his frustration, Mumbai got a huge favour from the officials who decided to overturn Hardik Pandya’s knick into a not-out.
It was Pandya’s first ball off Chris Woakes’ delivery, which was unplayable in the truest meaning. Coming at the crease with less than two overs left, the pinch-hitter went for the first ball itself. The sound of the knick was enough for the umpire to signal out before a confident Pandya decided to go up without even consulting Rohit Sharma.
The big screen in Wankhede played and replayed the action multiple times with the Ultraedge even showing a slight spike during the ball’s passage across Pandya’s bat. But, to everyone’s surprise, the third umpire decided to give it a ‘not out’ that left Woakes and Kohli befuddled.
The court ordered FIR against Hardik Pandya while hearing a petition against a tweet posted by him in December which was posted from a fake account.
Ace India cricketer Hardik Pandya finds himself in trouble as a special SC/ST court on Wednesday directed the police to register a case against him, for an alleged comment on Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Hardik, on December 26 had tweeted, “Which Ambedkar ??? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country.”
DR Meghwal, the petitioner, claims that the comment by Pandya insulted Dr. Ambedkar and hurt the sentiments of the people of his community. He also added that the cricketer attempted to insult and disregard the Constitution and the architect of Constitution deliberately.
“I learnt about Pandya’s comment through social media in January. It appeared quite derogatory for a figure like Ambedkar and was an attempt to spread hatred and create division in the society,” said Meghwal, an advocate by profession.
“By doing so, he has committed a serious crime and hurt the sentiments of my entire community,” Meghwal said, adding that Pandya should be given adequate and suitable punishment for his “crass act”.
During the recently held Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Pandya was retained by Mumbai Indians, one of the most consistently performing teams, for a whopping sum of Rs 11 crore.
The 24-year-old all-rounder from Baroda has played six Tests for India has represented India in 38 ODIs. Pandya was retained by Mumbai Indians for the 11th edition of Indian Premier League.
Cricketer Krunal Pandya is all set to marry girlfriend Pankhuri Sharma on December 27 and the all-rounder has posted adorable pre-wedding pictures on his Instagram account.
He wrote, “Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her! Ecstatic • Blessed • Thankful.” Krunal has become a good household name in the Indian Premier League for his franchise side Mumbai Indians. Krunal is the elder brother of India all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Here is Pandya’s cricket-themed pre-wedding photoshoot:
Krunal met Pankhuri at a common gathering two years ago and the two eventually started dating. ” “She is a friend of my friend. We met at a common gathering two years ago and developed a liking for each other. We both are of same age and get along a lot. What I like about her is her simplicity and supportive nature,” he told in November.
Krunal was part of the Mumbai Indians team that won this year’s IPL title. He was awarded man-of-the-match in the final for his 38-ball 47 against Rising Pune Supergiant – a match Mumbai won by one run.
“Well, I proposed her for marriage after our team Mumbai Indians became champions in the IPL this year. I was awarded man of the match in the finals and I thought it was the right time,” he said.
Krunal Pandya had earlier said that he would tie the knot with Pankhuri in December. “We will marry in a ceremony attended by family members and close relatives. On the same evening, a reception will be organized. I am very happy that I am marrying a girl who is more like a friend and understands me,” Krunal was quoted.
Cricket dominated the theme of the pre-wedding shoot. Krunal posted another picture on similar lines and captioned, “And Krunal gets bowled! @pankhuriisharma.”
The left-hand all-rounder Krunal Pandya considers Pankhuri as his “ultimate guide” and the Mumbai Indians player didn’t hesitate to post this on social media as he wrote, “My Ultimate Guide @pankhuriisharma.”

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is not just a popular figure in the Indian dressing room but also shares a close bond with overseas players in the Mumbai Indians camp. Among Hardik’s closest friends is West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who the former often refers to as his ‘brother from another mother’. On Friday, Hardik threw light on a rather interesting incident he was involved in during his trip to the West Indies as part of India’s limited-overs squad. Hardik, who spent a lot of time with Pollard in the Caribbean, was on the receiving end of a prank by the latter.
“So, he (Pollard) actually pulled my leg. He called a policeman, who was trying to arrest me. The policeman was his friend. They decided to scare me. I knew it was a prank but at one point, things got a little serious. I stayed calm and I thought I would call the Indian team and sort out the matter because I haven’t done anything wrong.
“I figured out it was a prank when I saw the police officer try to call someone while holding the phone upside down with the speaker at the wrong end.
“Pollard asked me why I was calm. I said ‘See Polly, nothing will happen to me if you are around. I am in your city,” he said on the Breakfast With Champions show.
Hardik also stated why he refers to Pollard as ‘a brother from another mother’.
“I met everyone at his place. He keeps on going to people’ s places, I went everywhere with him. That’s why I call him ‘a brother from another mother’,” he further added.
Hardik, who was earlier included in the India squad for the first two Tests against Sri Lanka, was rested from the series owing to his “heavy recent workload”, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a media statement last month.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee in consultation with the Indian team management has decided to rest all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the upcoming Paytm Test series against Sri Lanka. Mr Pandya was named in the squad for the first two Tests,” the BCCI stated.
“Considering Mr Pandya’s heavy recent workload, the decision was made to negate any possibility of a major injury concern. Mr Pandya will undergo a period of strength and conditioning at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.”
Mumbai Indians have lifted the IPL cup this season. This is their third win and a well deserving one. They took the field against Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Pune Supergiants and crushed them. Obviously everybody is ecstatic about the win and Bollywood celebs have taken to Twitter to congratulate the team. It definitely is an awesome victory. Winning the finals for the third time is a prestigious honour. We are pretty sure Sachin Tendulkar will be really proud of the team. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter that we gathered for you,
From the starting of its first instalment, IPL, somehow, had managed to attract the media headlines and that too for all the wrong reasons. From corruption charges surfacing in most of the instalment or the match fixing scandal, IPL had not lost its place for being the most controversial game. And with Mumbai Indian and Kings Eleven Punjab game of yesterday raised another controversy.
Kieron Pollard has managed to cause a big debate in cricketing circles after he ran a short run in the final over of Mumbai Indians’ clash against Kings XI Punjab. Mumbai Indians needed 16 runs to win off the last over and Pollard, while trying to take a double off the first delivery, failed to ground his bat while taking the first run. From the looks of it, Pollard seemed to have done it deliberately, in order to make the most of the laws of cricket.
After the end of the second run, the umpire, who spotted the short run, duly reduced one run from Mumbai’s score but Pollard stayed on strike and as a result seemed to have achieved his goal.
However, if the umpires had considered Pollard’s act to be deliberate, as mentioned in Law 18.5, the West Indian would have been warned along with one run being reduced. A second deliberately short run offence would see the opposition handed five penalty runs. Pollard though wasn’t warned and managed to hit the next ball for a massive six. As a result, Mumbai Indians needed 9 runs from four deliveries and looked favourites to win the match and end Kings XI Punjab’s dreams of making it through to the play-offs. Mohit Sharma though kept his cool and bowled three dot deliveries after that to ensure a 7-run win for KXIP.
