This MBA Bride Breaking Stereotype arrives on Chariot: Gender Equality

Gargi Ahlawat, daughter of BJP MP from Jhunjunu chose to ride a chariot, a ritual usually performed by the groom, and reverse the age-old customs.

From a small town in Jhunjhunu, 150 km from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Gargi’s aim is to bring a change in the patriarchal mindset of society and spread the message that daughters are equal to sons. Gargi, who earned her MBA from the UK, is getting married to Delhi-based Kushal in Udaipur on February 8, followed by a reception in Delhi on February 10.

Gargi shared how her mother inspired her to initiate the needed change, “People in rural and semi-rural areas can be influenced by action but not by articles in newspapers or TV shows. My mother is campaigning for ‘Beti Bacho, Beti Padhao’. This action coming from the daughter of an MP can set an example for others to follow. A woman riding a horse carriage for the ritual is bound to be noticed and followed by other families soon.” She further added, “As the bindoli tradition says that relatives invite both the groom and the bride for a feast before the marriage. It is the groom who comes on a horse, but I changed it,” Gargi said with pride.

Proud of her daughter, Santosh Ahlawat said, “My district had skewed sex ratio which I fought like a warrior. Things have improved a lot in the last few years as awareness has increased with PM Narendra Modi’s Beti Bachao’ campaign. I am happy that my daughter has taken the initiative forward.”

The reversal of the ritual by this bride riding the horse was widely accepted by residents of Chirawa, who witnessed the ceremony in huge number.

Ban removed from Padmavati

The film “Padmavati” will not be banned by the Supreme Court, said judges today, stating that it’s up to the country’s censor board to decide how the film should be released.
Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, tells the story of Queen Padmini of Chittoor in Rajasthan and stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.Padmavati is a Historical movie. Audiences are expecting very much from this movie.

The film has run into controversy with some Hindu groups, mainly in Rajasthan, stating that it romanticizes the relationship between Padmini and Alauddin Khilji, the Delhi ruler who was obsessed with her. Legend has it that after her husband was killed, Padmini set herself on fire along with other women to prevent Khilji from taking her prisoner.

The director has denied any intimate scenes or the love story between Padmini and Khilji.

Rajasthan has seen several protests against the 200-crore movie, whose makers say they plan to release it on December 1 though they have yet to submit it for clearance to the censor board.
Earlier this week, a BJP parliamentarian from Madhya Pradesh warned of possible violence if the film is not blocked.

For India It Was On The 1st Of July, For This Couple GST Was Born On 2nd

India, famous for it’s incredible and out of the box thinking, has once again come under the same spotlight. Just a few days ago, on July 1, GST, the most awaited, revolutionary and uniform tax system was introduced in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and coincidently the day is also celebrated as CA(Chartered Accountancy) day as well.

As history repeats, this was the first time in 70 years that a special midnight session was held in the Parliament to officially roll out the tax reform.

When people of the country were awake to witness the history that was being made in the country; at the same time the couple was excitedly waiting for the night. As for them, it does mark the new beginning, not by the tax reform, but by the new life they were about to witness. The parents go through sleepless nights post the birth of a child, with the mind occupied to decide the name to be given to the baby, GST came out as a solution to the problem for this couple for obvious reasons.

The twins born in Bangad Hospital at 12.06 AM, didn’t know what was coming their way but their father did. The father of the twins, Jasraj Sen, was so excited by the GST proceedings on TV that he chose to name one of his twins GST.

What else can be the best way to celebrate the major tax reform in the country.

For those unaware, GST will replace the previous tax regime and will bring uniformity in the state in the tax.

Even as the child marriage is prevalent in the country, this girl’s story is inspiring millions of the people in the country already. The girls were married at the meagre age as lows as 4 years, were denied the basic right; the right to education.

Breaking the same stereotypes and the mindset of the people, a 20-year old woman from Kareri village near Jaipur Rajasthan has led her way achieving what she wanted if given right opportunity. Married at just 8 years, the things don’t go well in the favour of Rupa, but that doesn’t let Rupa deter with her dream.

However, this girl decided to continue with her education. Now, 12 years after her marriage, Rupa is all set to attend the medical school to become a doctor. Along with Rupa’s hard work and determination, it is her husband and her in-laws who should also be given due credit.

Her husband’s family supported her decision to pursue her dream and helped her financially to continue with her higher education. Recently, Rupa cleared the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) for medical education. In her third attempt, Rupa scored 603 in the NEET and is currently attending counselling for admission.

Rupa got married when she was a student of class three. She said it’s her husband, Shankar Lal, who was just 12 at the time of marriage, and her in-laws, particularly brother-in-law Babulal, supported her in pursuing her dream.

“I scored 84 per cent in my Class 10 examinations. Everyone, including our neighbours and relatives, told my in-laws to let me continue my education and they agreed. I am very thankful for their support,” Rupa said.

In fact, her in-laws and husband made sure that Rupa got proper coaching in a Kota Institute to help her write her entrance exams well. “My in-laws, like my parents, are farmers.

The income from farming is meagre. So, my husband started plying a cargo taxi to sponsor my education,” she said. Rupa’s story once again brings to light why every girl in India deserves to go to school.
