Umar Akmal reassured fans after claims he had died in Pakistan protests



Internet rumour about a celebrity’s death isn’t something new. This time, it was Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal who found himself at the wrong end. The news of his demise went so viral that the cricketer had to tweet and quash all misinformation that was propagating on the internet.

Violent clashes have emerged in Pakistan which has led to many casualties. Among the few dead, social media was filled with reports claiming that the cricketer had passed away. There was a picture of a victim too doing rounds on the internet with claims that it was Akmal.

The 27-year-old was for sure taken aback by the news. He took to social media and cleared the air saying that he was safe and fine. He termed the rumours as fake and baseless. He also mentioned that he would be joining the team for the National T20 Cup semi-final soon.

He tweeted, “Allhamdulillah I am safe n perfectly fine in Lahore all news coming from social media is fake

And Insha Allah I will join #National20cup2017  #SemiFinals

He further tweeted a video too and informed his followers about his well being. He also requested people not to share any such inventions and avoid them.




As mentioned in the video, Akmal is all set to don the Lahore Whites jersey. They are slated to face Faisalabad in the semi-finals of the National T20 Cup. It’s supposed to be a high voltage clash in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Earlier the Pakistan Cricket Board has postponed both the semis following the situation of unrest prevailing in the country. However, both matches have now been given a ‘go ahead’ and are slated to take place on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The Lahore Blues are going to lock horns with Fata Region in the other semi-final.
