Uber driver pretends to be a woman’s boyfriend to save her from harassment
We hear harassment cases in cabs almost everyday somewhere or the other. It was only yesterday when an uber driver in Bengaluru misbehaved with a woman and threatened her to tear her clothes. Even though she pressed the safety button but the uber called the driver instead of calling her first. But an Uber driver in the UK is being hailed a ‘hero’ on social media after he saved a lady passenger from getting harassed.
An Uber driver named Gareth Gale from the UK has proved that passengers’ trust can be earned with good deeds. He recalled an incident where he saved a female customer from an aggressive man by pretending to be her boyfriend.
Writing about the incident on Facebook, Gale said the woman was not in a good place and she had asked him to pretend to be her boyfriend so that she could get away from a ‘pushy’ man. Without wasting much time, Gale obliged.
He explained the entire incident in his Facebook post which goes something like this.
‘Last night, while driving for Uber, I got a call to pick up a woman from over by the fair. About 30 seconds after accepting the ride, the rider sent me a message via the app’ – When you get here, can you pretend to be my boyfriend?
He continued, “I didn’t know to what capacity she meant, so I asked, “What do you mean?”. She then said, “I just need you to act like you know me, and that you’re not my Uber driver”.’
Gale added that he had to remove his wedding ring before reaching the pickup point. When he reached the spot, he noticed a man and woman in a yard. Upon noticing Gale, the woman yelled, “Hi, Babe! I’ll be right there.” Gale pretended to be the boyfriend and yelled back “Awesome because I’m starving.” The act was successful. She was safe and explained the situation.
Gale ends his post with an important message. – “Men, learn to accept the word “no” as a response. Learn to take responsibility for your actions. Our sons are watching you and they’re learning how to treat the women in their lives by example. Lead by a better one.
Ladies, take this as a note that if you are in any trouble or feel unsafe, you have an option to chat with the driver and save yourself from the trouble.
