All you need to know about Guru Purnima

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णु: गुरुर्देवो महेश्वर:।
गुरु: साक्षात् परंब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नम:।।

This means Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Mahesh, Guru is supreme Brahman itself Prostration unto that Guru. Guru meaning is indefinable but the word Guru came from Sanskrit word ‘Gu’ (Darkness or ignorance) and ‘Ru’ (Removal). Hence Guru is believed to be the removal of darkness from life.

Guru Purnima is also been called Vyasa Purnima, a symbol of Guru- Shishya tradition. now, the question is why
Vyasa Purnima? This day is believed to be the day when Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa Muni, author of Mahabharat was born to saga Parashara and Satyavati. Saga
Vyasa worked for the cause of Vedic studies by gathering hymns and further divided into four parts namely Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva.

Hindu ascetics and wandering monks offer puja to their Guru’s, students to their teachers and seek their blessings.

Do you know who the first Guru-Shishya was? This historical day is also known for Lord Shiva, who became the first Guru of Saptarishi.

According to the reports, This year on the day of Guru Purnima, a partial lunar eclipse will be taking place and it will be visible in India at 12 AM and will last till 3 AM morning, next lunar eclipse will take occur on 26th May 2021.
