The News Broadcasting Standard Authority (NBSA), a private association of news television broadcasters in India has directed top news channels – Aaj Tak, Zee News, India TV, and News 24 to air apologies for violating journalistic norms while reporting the death of a late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The self-governing authority also directs the ” Aaj Tak ” channel to air an Apology on October 27 at 8 pm and to pay a fine of Rs One Lakh for attributing fake tweets to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and reporting them as his last tweets.

NBSA clearly states that Aaj Tak should have verified the information before airing the news report and not afterward.

Besides airing apology and paying fine, NBSA has also ordered the broadcasters to remove all the programs related to fake tweets in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

News Channels while reporting the Sushant Singh Rajput case has displayed headlines like “Sushant itne ashant Kaise “,” Aise Kaise hit-wicket ho Gaye Sushant ?” ” Hey, Why didn’t you watch your film Sushant? The NBSA considers these headlines as offensive, privacy-violating taglines, and also it affects the dignity of the deceased.

NBSA acknowledges that the media has the right to freedom of expression and the suicide of a famous actor would become ‘ big news’ but media should report these cases without indulging in sensationalism.
