Virat Kohli Speaks Up On MS Dhoni’s Exclusion From T20I Squad

Along with Virat Kohli, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also spoke up on MS Dhoni’s exclusion from the T20I squad.

When BCCI announced the exclusion of MS Dhoni from the T20I squad for the series against Windies and Australia, the news came as a surprise to many. Rishabh Pant was chosen over the 37-year-old veteran in the shortest format of the game. Elaborating on Pant’s inclusion, skipper Virat Kohli in the post-match press conference on Thursday explained that the decision was all about helping the 21-year-old grow in the shortest format of the game.

“I think the selectors have already addressed this if I’m not wrong. And he’s been spoken to, firstly… So, I don’t see any reason why I should be sitting here and explaining that. I think the selectors have come out and explained exactly what happened,” said Kohli.

Talking about it further, he said, “I was not part of that conversation so… It is what the selectors explained. I think people are putting too much variables into the situation, which is not the case I can assure you of that. He’s still a very integral part of this team and he just feels that in the T20 format, someone like Rishabh can get more chances.”

Assuring that Dhoni’s intention is only to help the youngsters, Kohli said, “He anyway plays the ODIs for us regularly, so… From that point of view, he’s only trying to help the youngsters; nothing that anything that other people are thinking and I as captain can certainly assure you of that.”

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also recently spoke about Dhoni’s exclusion.

“I don’t know what the mindset of the selectors is & I haven’t looked to influence anyone by giving opinions as what happens in dressing room & between captain, coach & selectors should stay within them,” Sachin was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

India registered a clinical nine-wicket win against the Windies in the fifth and final One-day International to clinch the five-match series 3-1 in Thiruvananthapuram. A combined bowling effort, led by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja tore apart the Windies batting order, bundling the visitors for 104 in 31.5 overs. Chasing a paltry target, India completed the run-chase in 14.4 overs.

Kohli, post the emphatic series win, termed the victory as a combined effort. The skipper also asserted that performances in all the three departments were clinical throughout the series and that has boosted the morale in the dressing room.

“Turned out to be that way. Because of our clinical performance, we were able to finish the game in a few hours. Credit to the bowling unit, pitching it in the right areas. Wanted to bowl first anyway. Blessing in disguise. Still had to execute our plans. Last both games have been clinical, very professional with ball and bat. Change-room atmosphere is very important, and when you play like that, the energy is always good. Everyone wants to be part of it,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Ambati Rayudu and Khaleel Ahmed were the highlights of the series for India. Praising the duo Kohli said, ” Khaleel has been outstanding. Rayudu has also taken responsibility at No.4. God forbid anything happens to Bhuvi or Bumrah, good to have Khaleel who can come in and take wickets. Those two areas we’re looking at. And those two have been addressed,” Kohli added.

India and the Windies will next face each other in the three-match T20I sereis scheduled to start from November 4.

Mumbai Police’s Tweet On Virat Kohli’s Record Will Make Your Day

Following Virat Kohli’s heroics with the bat, Mumbai Police came up with a novel way of congratulating the Indian captain.

Virat Kohli was on a record-breaking spree on Wednesday with the Windies bowlers coming under attack. Kohli shattered Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest batsman to score 10,000 runs in ODIs. He also went on to score his 37th ODI century.

Following his heroics with the bat, Mumbai Police came up with a novel way of congratulating the Indian captain. “No over-speeding challan here, just accolades & best wishes for more @imVkohli ! Many congratulations on your amazing feat!,” read a tweet posted on Mumbai Police’s official Twitter handle.

The tweet quickly went viral and garnered more than 300 retweets and nearly 2,000 likes.

Fans also came in their numbers to comment on the tweet.

Kohli broke the record of compatriot and batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached the 10,000-run milestone in 259 innings. The Indian captain took only 205, becoming the 13th cricketer to reach 10,000 runs.

The 29-year-old Kohli, who hit 13 boundaries and four sixes, bettered Tendulkar’s record by an incredible 54 innings, and then went past 1,000 runs in the calendar year in only 11 innings, which is also the fastest.

However, despite Kohli’s record-breaking performance, things didn’t go all India’s way with Shai Hope playing out of his skin to earn the Windies a spectacular tie.

India vs West Indies: Virat Kohli On Verge Of Achieving New Milestone

Virat Kohli is now only 81 runs short of completing 10,000 ODI runs.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is breaking batting records at will. Virat Kohli’s century against the Windies on Sunday was his 36th ODI ton. Virat Kohli scored 140 runs hitting 21 fours and 2 sixes in India’s 8-wicket win over the Windies.

If he continues such imperious form, he may well surpass most of the legends the game has produced. Virat Kohli is now only 81 runs short of completing 10,000 ODI runs and once he achieves this feat, he may become the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs in terms of innings. The current record is held by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who took 259 innings and it seems Kohli is very much in the scheme of things to overtake him in the ongoing Windies tour itself.

Kohli has played 204 innings so far and if he achieves this, he will become the 4th Indian to reach the 10,000-run mark in ODIs.

Kohli is already having a heartbreaking 2018 in terms of runs. With 889 ODI runs, Kohli might not be the top run-getter this year but he has taken just 10 matches reach there. The Indian captain currently sits in fourth place in the ODI scoring charts in 2018.

England trio of Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Jason Roy have all scored more ODI runs than Kohli this year but the difference in averages are eye-popping. While Kohli has scored 889 runs in 10 ODIs at an average of 127, Bairstow, who tops the list, has taken 22 matches to score 1,025 runs and averages 46.59.

Kohli has four centuries and three fifties to his name this year. If he continues his form with the bat, India will definitely be hot favourites in next year’s World Cup in England and Wales.

India vs West Indies: Rohit Sharma Could Equal Sachin Tendulkar’s Batting Record

Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock remaining unbeaten on 152 in the first ODI against the Windies.

Fondly called as ‘hitman’, Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma showed his batting prowess in his scintillating unbeaten 152-run knock against the Windies in the first ODI at Guwahati on Sunday.

His blistering inning was laced with 15 fours and 8 maximums. His eight sixes in the match put him third in the list of Indian batsmen with the highest number of maximums. Rohit Sharma now has 194 sixes to his name in ODIs and he could equal or even surpass batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 195 sixes in the second ODI against the Windies on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma currently occupies the 8th spot in the list of batsmen with most sixes in ODI career. Rohit had already surpassed former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly’s record (190 sixes) in the first ODI against the Windies. India’s wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni is 4th on the list with 217 sixes and the only Indian batsman to be in the top 5.

Former Pakistan batsman Shahid Afridi leads the chart with 351 sixes to his name followed by Windies opener Chris Gayle with 275 sixes. The third on the list is Sri Lankan batting great Sanath Jayasuriya with 270 maximums.

India take on the Windies in the second ODI of the 5-match series on Wednesday at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. India currently lead the ODI series 1-0 after a convincing 8-wicket win. India were victorious in the 2-match Test series after defeating the visitors 2-0.

Champions Trophy 2017: Amir Reveals How He Dismissed Virat Kohli In CT Final

Mohammad Amir revealed the strategy behind the dismissal of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

Pakistan has produced world-class fast bowlers and legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar are a testament to this. Mohammad Amir is another future talent who has performed well for Pakistan in recent times. Speaking on the Voice of Cricket show, Mohammad Amir revealed the strategy behind the dismissal of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Mohammad Amir had seen his teammate Azhar Ali drop Virat Kohli in the 3rd over (2.3) for 5 runs.

Infuriated by the drop, Mohammad Amir got his prized wicket in the next ball after Shadab Khan took a blinder of a catch at backward point region. “When Virat Kohli came in, I had bowled an inswing delivery and he was beaten. Rohit Sharma was also dismissed off an inswinging delivery too. He was dropped earlier and I thought if he stuck around, he will take India towards victory. So I prayed to god for his wicket and the next ball I got his wicket after Shadab Khan took a brilliant catch”, he said.

When asked about his most special wicket out of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli, Amir chose the former. “Both. They’re both big batsmen. Tendulkar I will say because when I was playing then, I was new to the team. So Sachin’s wicket was special for me.”

Barring Hardik Pandya (76), the Indian batsmen faltered in the run-chase after a stupendous bowling show by Pakistan pacers Amir (3/16) and Hasan Ali (3/19). India were eventually bundled out for 158 runs in 30.3 overs.

Big Boss: Sreesanth Thanks Sachin Tendulkar For Prompting His Name During Interview

S Sreesanth was part of India’s both ICC T20 2007 and 2011 World Cup squads.

Banned fast bowler S Sreesanth has often spoken about his admiration for the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The pacer mentioned an interesting anecdote in an episode of the reality show Big Boss on Monday that involved Tendulkar and Sreesanth went on to add that the maestro’s gesture brought tears to his eyes.

“I want to share one incident related to Sachin Tendulkar. 1-2 years after our 2011 World Cup triumph, an interview was going on. The interviewer asked about everyone. 2011 you guys played well taking all players’ names but not mine.

When the interview was about to end, Sachin Tendulkar prompted my name saying Sreesanth also played a major role. I cried a lot during that time,” he told his fellow participant Anup Jalota.

The 35-year-old player is currently serving a life ban on cricket imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Delhi Police had arrested Sreesanth and other two cricketers Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on charges of spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League in 2013.

A single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court had on August 7 last year lifted the life ban imposed on Sreesanth by the BCCI and set aside all proceedings against him initiated by the board.

A division bench of the high court had later restored the ban on a petition filed by the BCCI against the single-judge bench’s order.

Virat Kohli has 24 centuries his name and the India skipper is one century short of equalling former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who has 25 Test centuries.

Indian team captain Virat Kohli could add another record to his tally when India take on West Indies in the second Test beginning Friday in Hyderabad. With 24 centuries, Kohli is on the 21st spot in the list of most centuries in Tests. India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar tops the tally with 51 centuries. Tendulkar has amassed 15921 runs in 200 Tests at an average of 53.78.

In ODIs, Kohli is the second in the list of century scorers in ODIs. With 35 centuries to his name, Kohli is behind Tendulkar, who has 49 centuries under his belt. Kohli has scored 9779 runs in 211 ODIs at an average of 58.20.

India currently lead 1-0 in the two-match Test series against West Indies. The visitors were thumped by the hosts after an innings and 272 runs defeat in the first Test. Kohli, debutant Prithvi Shaw and Ravindra Jadeja scored their respective hundreds to ensure India resounding win over their opponents.

The win at Rajkot helped the world’s top Test side surpass their previous biggest win against Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs during the minnows’ debut five-day game in June.

The Windies will have a chance to reclaim some of their lost pride when they face India in the second Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, starting October 12.

Prithvi Shaw Makes History, Becomes Youngest Indian Test Centurion On Debut

Prithvi Shaw is the second youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score a Test century.

Prithvi Shaw made history on Thursday by becoming the youngest Indian to score a Test century on debut. Shaw, at 18 years and 329 days, reached the historic three-figure mark off just 99 balls against the Windies on Day 1 of the opening Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

The record was previously held by Abbas Ali Baig, who at the age of 20 years 131 days, scored a half-century against England in Manchester in 1959.

India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch with a green tinge. India got off to a nightmare start, losing KL Rahul for a duck in the very first over of the match. However, Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara made sure there were no more trouble for India with the duo batting brilliantly to take India to 133 for one at lunch on Day 1.

England had edged India by 31 runs in the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Despite Kohli’s heroics with the bat (149, 51), India could not cross the finishing line and ended on the losing side. The second Test at Lord’s saw England outclass India by an innings and 159 runs to take a 2-0 lead. However, it was India’s all-round performance that saw them outperform the hosts England on all fronts. India thumped England by 203 runs to remain alive in the series. Kohli was adjudged the player of the match after he notched up a century and a fifty (97, 103) to humble England at Trent Bridge
