Phogat shines again, reaches final at Ukraine Wrestling Tournament in Kyiv.

Asian Games and Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Vinesh Phogat on Saturday reached the women’s 53kg Category final of the XXIV Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial Competition in Kyiv, Ukraine

India’s star wrestler was in her top gear on Saturday as she defeated Romania’s Ana A by fall in the semi-final.

Vinesh Phogat took a 2-0 lead early and never allowed her opponent a chance to come back into the match.

Returning to the mat after a year, Vinesh Phogat after taking a 7-0 lead pinned her opponent by fall to end the match.

Vinesh Phogat will now take on World No.7 and 2017 World Champion Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus on Sunday in the gold medal match.

Phogat has sealed comfortable victories against Katsiaryna Pichkouskaya and Lilia Leorda in the quarter-finals and Round of 16 respectively.

For the unversed Vinesh Phogat has already sealed a berth in the 53 Kg Category at Tokyo Olympics.

The Indian wrestler has been training in Europe Singh November 2020 as she prepares to hit her peak form for her competition ahead.

During the lockdown, Vinesh Phogat used to train in Haryana while her coach Woller Akos of Hungary oversaw her routines virtually.

After Sunday’s final Phogat will head to Rome for the season’s first Ranking Tournament from March 4 to 7.
