Indian education system has been in the question for a long time now, from poor infrastructure to dropping in world rank in education. In one of the shocking incident from IIT Kharagpur, Nikhil Bhatia recently lost his life under questionable circumstances. According to the students and eye-witness accounts, he had attempted suicide by jumping off the roof of the building. The students allege that Nikhil’s death was a result of negligence on the part of the administration.
Here is the heart-wrenching videos where the students of IIT Kharagpur tell their story:
The revelations made by the students in the video show the negligence by the administration. In the video students alleged that the truck used to transport Nikhil had gone the wrong way and half-way through, it had run out of fuel. A 10-minute route took them 45 minutes.
Upon being reached to the hospital, there was some problem with the doctors and Nikhil was proclaimed dead there.
IIT Kharagpur administration had called for an Open House.
This forces us to think that if premier institutes of the country are so ill-equipped in dealing with students’ mental health issues, is it the fault of our education system or is it the fault of the college administration.
