The Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Sunday issued a notice to Amazon Prime Video Officials in connection with the controversy around the web series ‘Tandav’.
The move comes after several leaders protested against the web series with BJP MP Manoj Kotak writing to I& B minister Prakash Javadekar seeking a ban on the series for insulting Hindi deities.
Now an FIR has been lodged in Lucknow against Tandav director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehta and series writer Gaurav Solanki for insulting Hindu God and Goddesses.
Aparna Purohit who heads original content for Amazon India has also been named in the FIR along with others.
Soon after the case was registered, Shalabh Mani Tripathi media advisor to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister shared a copy of it on Twitter.
BJP party leader Ram Kadam has also filed a complaint against the series at Mumbai’s Ghatkopar Police Station.
Kadam also demand d that OTT platforms must be brought under censorship soon.
Meanwhile, hashtags ‘Boycott Tandav’ and ‘Ban Tandav’ continue to trend on social media.
