A major painful accident near Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) railway station. Half of a footover bridge going to CST railway station and fell on Thursday night at around 7.30 pm. The 40-year-old Footover Bridge has been told of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Through this, it was crossing the road to CST station. At the time the incident there was a lot of crowd on the bridge. At the same time, the arrival of vehicles was also going on the road. Due to the night time, people were going out of their offices and going home.
At the same time, half of the bridge fell, those who were on the bridge fell down and buried under the rubble. After the incident, the team of Police and Fire Brigade reached the spot immediately. People buried in the debris have been admitted to St. George and JJ Hospital.
Regarding the accident, the Railway Ministry said that the bridge belongs to the BMC. We are doing every possible help of the injured Railway doctors and officials are helping the BMC in relief and rescue work.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the accident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra’s CM Devendra Fadnavis have expressed deep sorrow. The PM tweeted that his condolences are with the families of the victims. He wished the wounded to be healthy soon. CM Fadnavis has announced to give 5 lakh compensation to the families of the dead.
It is also called Kasab Bridge. This is the same bridge through which the terrorist Ajmal Kasab moved from CST to Mokama during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Kasab had thrown grenades with his fellow terrorists and fired.
