Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Praises Diljit Dosanjh: ‘A Punjab Guy Making History, Selling Out Stadiums’

Diljit Dosanjh is unstoppable. After making history at Coachella and appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” in the US, he recently became the first Punjabi artist to sell out a concert venue in Canada. His latest concert at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, which has a capacity of 49,286, was completely sold out, marking another significant milestone in his career.

On Monday, both the singer-actor and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared highlights of the event. Trudeau made a surprise visit to Dosanjh before the concert, and a video shared by Dosanjh shows them greeting each other with folded hands and then embracing warmly.

The video also captures Trudeau posing with Dosanjh’s team and shaking hands with them, while Dosanjh’s team enthusiastically chants his signature line, “Punjabi aa gaye oye” (Punjabis are here). In an Instagram post, Dosanjh expressed his pride, writing, “Diversity is Canada’s strength. Prime Minister @justinpjtrudeau came to check out history in the making: we sold out the Rogers Centre!”

Trudeau also posted a series of photos with Dosanjh on his Instagram. The first photo shows them greeting each other, the second features Trudeau meeting Dosanjh’s team, and the third captures a light-hearted conversation between the two. Trudeau captioned the photos, “Stopped by the Rogers Centre to wish @diljitdosanjh good luck before his show. Canada is a great country — one where a guy from Punjab can make history and sell out stadiums. Diversity isn’t just our strength. It’s a superpower.”

Diljit shared more moments from his historic concert on his Instagram Stories, including a banner declaring the concert “Sold out” and a video of the packed stadium with fans waving their phone flashlights. The comment section on Diljit’s post was flooded with praise from excited fans, with one commenting, “Punjabis are making India famous. They are putting them on the map! Punjabi aa gaye oye.” Another fan wrote, “You are the pride of the whole world, I congratulate you.” Other comments included, “Thank you for representing each one of us on this level,” “This man is creating milestones day by day,” and “Proud moment.”
