Wife of Sarabjit Singh, who died in Pakistan jail in 2013, passes away

13 September 2022 (New Delhi): Sarabjit Singh’s wife, Sukhpreet Kaur, who was killed on charges of espionage in a Pakistan jail, died in a road accident. On the previous day, Sukhpreet Kaur was going from Amritsar to Jalandhar on a motorcycle with her neighbour to meet her daughter Swapndeep. During this, she fell behind the motorcycle, from which she suffered a severe head injury and died.


Sukhpreet Kaur was admitted to the Mahajan Hospital in Amritsar for treatment after a road accident, where she died. The body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem. She suffered serious injuries to the back of his head and chest in the accident.


Sarabjit was lodged in a Pakistan jail.


Sukhpreet Kaur’s last rites was performed at the Bhikhiwind crematorium on Tuesday morning. Sarabjit, a resident of India, was convicted by a Pakistani court for terrorism and espionage. He was sentenced to death in 1991. However, in 2008, the government indefinitely stayed the execution of Sarabjit.

Sukhpreet Kaur had tried a lot to get her husband out of jail, but in April 2013, Sarabjit Singh died after a fight with prisoners in Lahore. At the same time, in the month of June this year, Sarabjit’s sister, Dalbir Kaur, also passed away. She also struggled a lot to get his brother out of jail.


Sarabjit Singh’s daughter Swapandeep Kaur is posted in the Revenue Department as Naib Tehsildar in Jalandhar. Her daughter has called her mother, Sukhpreet Kaur, to meet her but unfortunately she died on the way.
