What led these famous B-Town filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap to auction their prestigious awards for? Read to know more:

After Anurag Kashyap alongwith Kunal Kamra auctions their trophies and awards to raise funds for the Covid-19 test kits, it is Neeraj Ghaywan, the filmmaker and writer-lyricist Varun Grover who has joined them to support the cause.

The filmmakers have decided to raise over Rs 13lakh for kits to test corona virus patients.  They have called their fans out to bid for their trophies and help raise the funds.

Meanwhile Anurag Kashyap has auctioned his Gangs of Wasseypur filmfare trophy, filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan has invited his fans to bid for his three awards which includes TOIFA Best Debut Director award that he won for Masaan, Filmfare Best Film award that he earned for Juice and a signed copy of the jury prize- ‘Prix de l’Avenir’ (Masaan) that he won at Cannes Film festival, 2015. Lyricist Varun Grover’s auction is his TOIFA award for the song “Moh Moh Ke” from Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

There’s more to it, when stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra contributes by auctioning his Golden YouTube Button, a creator award that aims to recognize the most popular channels on the video sharing site which he won for passing 1,000,000 subscribers.

“While each rupee counts I appreciate the hell out of Comrade @anuragkashyap72 who is giving away his 2013 gangs of Wasseypur critics award to the highest donor of this charity with my YouTube button Link – https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-burda-media-india I urge other artists to help in their own way!” Kamra tweeted.

Anurag Kashyap quoted Kunal’s tweet and wrote,” Highest bidder gets the original trophy for the Filmfare critics award best film 2013. “Gangs of Wasseypur”…”

The money raised through this campaign will be transferred directly from Milaap Foundation to Mylab Discovery Solutions, which will help Burda Media India secure the COVID-19 testing kits that will be donated to hospitals and labs.

The message in the picture shared by Kamra in his tweet read, “We need more RT-PCR kits. This is the fastest confirmatory test kit in India. Mylab is an Indian company making it at 0profit. I’ve adopted a kit which costs Rs 1, 34, 000/- for my home city, Mumbai. You can do the same, I’m giving my YouTube button to highest donor, I urge all artists to give away their prized possessions towards charity in difficult times. Film maker Anurag even quoted Neeraj’s auction announcement tweet and wrote praising him,”Yeh insaan ka dil poora talaab hai”

Earlier in 2016 as well, Neeraj and Grover had made donations towards relief work for distressed farmers in Maharashtra. Both of them donated their prize money they received for winning National awards. Ghaywan got Rs 1.25lakh as the cash prize for best debut director for Masaan and Grover was rewarded with Rs 50,000 for Moh Moh Ke Dhaage (Dum Laga Ke Haisha).
