The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday reserved its order on the bail plea of comedian Munawar Faruqui and Indore resident Nalin Yadav who was arrested last month following complaints of allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a comedy shown in Indore on January 1.
A single-judge bench of Justice Rohit Arya questioned the comedian why he takes the ‘undue advantage of others religious sentiments’.
But you take undue advantage of others’ religious sentiments and emotions. What is wrong with your mindset? How can you do this for your business?” the report quoted the bench as saying.
“Such people must not be spared . I will reserve the order on merits,” the bench while reserving the order.
The bench also asked Faruqui’s lawyer Vivek Tankha that they wanted to withdraw the bail plea, to which the lawyer replied that Faruqui had not committed any offense and bail should be granted.
However, counsels opposing the plea said that Faruqui had made highly objectionable statements against Hindu gods and deities. The counsels also said that there were several videos in the past, where Faruqui can be seen insulting the for and repeated the same on different occasions.
For the unversed Faruqui had been behind the bars even though the police have clarified that there was no electronic evidence and that the complaint was based on hearsay.
