In the IPL 2024 clash between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, the frustration of Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was evident as he walked back to the dressing room after his dismissal. A video capturing the moment of his frustration, where Pant is seen hitting the curtain with his bat, quickly went viral on social media platforms. Pant’s dismissal occurred in the 13th over of the innings when he attempted to chase a wide delivery from leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, only to edge it to the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who took a brilliant catch. Pant had managed to score 28 runs off 26 deliveries before departing.
This relatively sluggish innings came on the heels of a similarly underwhelming performance against the Punjab Kings, where Pant scored 18 runs. Despite Pant’s efforts, the Delhi Capitals fell short by 12 runs in their chase, with Avesh Khan’s last over proving decisive in the outcome of the match.
Reflecting on the team’s second consecutive loss, Pant expressed disappointment, noting that the onslaught from the Rajasthan Royals in the death overs proved to be too much for them to handle. Despite the Capitals’ bowlers performing well until the 15th or 16th over, the Royals’ late surge, fueled by Marsh and Warner’s aggressive batting, put the Capitals on the back foot. Pant emphasized the need for the team to learn from the defeat and acknowledged the challenge of covering too many runs in the end.
The Player of the Match award went to Riyan Parag, who played a stellar innings, scoring 84 runs off just 45 balls, contributing significantly to the Rajasthan Royals’ total and ultimately securing their victory over the Delhi Capitals.
