Unforgettable day today for batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar  

It was on this day 15th November in 1989, that batting maestro made his first Test appearance against formidable Pakistan in Karachi. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is a former Indian cricketer and a former Captain, widely regarded as the greatest Batsman of all time.  “Master Blaster” Sachin Tendulkar took up cricket at the age of eleven.

 

 

In a team that had some of the big stars of Indian cricket including Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri and K Srikkanth, three debutants made the squad for the all-important tour of Pakistan in November-December 1989. The Pakistani public was curious to look at a 16-year-old school boy who is out to take on the giants like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Salim Malik, Abdul Qadir among others.

 

These were the indication that something big was about to happen. That moment transformed this 16-year boy into a man. Initially, he was a young talented batsman but later with his batting techniques and cricket he achieved the title  “GOD OF CRICKET” from the cricketing fans all around the world.

 

 

The master blaster is holding plenty of unbreakable records in his name. 44 years old Sachin is the only player to have scored one Hundred International Centuries followed by the first batsman to score a double century in a One Day International.

 

Some of the notable achievements of Sachin Tendulkar are as follows.

  • 1994: Arjuna Award recipient for achievements in cricket
  • 1997: Tendulkar was one of the five cricketers selected as Wisden Cricketer of the Year
  • 1997/98: India’s highest sporting honour – Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna 
  • 1999:  Padma Shri – India’s fourth highest civilian award.
  • 2008: Padma Vibhushan – India’s second highest civilian award
  • 2010: ICC Cricketer of the year. ICC Cricketer of the year – Highest award in the ICC listings
  • 2010: LG People’s Choice Award.
  • 2014: Bharat Ratna – India’s highest civilian honour.

 

Little Master is also well known for holding the record for the most number of runs in both ODI and Test cricket. Also, this right-hand batsman is the only player to complete more than 30,000 runs in International Cricket.

Tendulkar has gone through many ups & downs in his cricketing career. He came across many serious injuries during his career and missed many matches as well as the series.

 

 

In December 2012, Tendulkar announced his retirement from ODIs. He retired from Twenty20 cricket in October 2013 and subsequently retired from all forms of cricket on 16 November 2013 after playing his 200th Test match against the West Indies in Mumbai’s Wankhede. Tendulkar played 664 international cricket matches in total, scoring 34,357 runs.

Thus, Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time and proclaimed as the GOD OF CRICKET.
