March 23, 2022 (New Delhi): In the Rampurhat area of West Bengal’s Birbhum, a mob was allegedly seen setting fire following the killing of the Trinamool Congress leader Bahadur Shaikh. Manoj Malviya, DGP Of West Bengal informed that 11 arrests have been made in the case so far. He further informed that Bahadur Shaikh’s murder was reported on Monday night, an hour after which 7-8 houses nearby had caught fire. A special investigation team has been formed to investigate the matter. After the horrific killings of eight people, West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

In Bogtui village which is situated on the outskirts of Rampurhat town, unknown miscreants were seen setting fire to the houses after diffusing bombs when everyone was in deep slumber. Local villagers who tried to douse flames immediately called the police and fire brigade to help, but many watched as mute spectators as flames engulfed a house killing seven including two children, while another person who was rescued died later in a hospital.

After this heart-wrenching episode of innocent killings, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were engulfed in a war of words over the tragedy. Dhankar tweeted that the incident indicated West Bengal was gripped by a culture of “violence and lawlessness”. He also said that this was the terrifying event of “Arson Orgy”. After his contentious response, Banerjee elicited a sharp retort to the governor that his “utterances and statements have political overtones which provide support to other political parties to browbeat the government.”

However, leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the state. The lawless situation in the state proves imposition of President’s Rule is the only way to protect the state. Our delegation will visit the area tomorrow,” he said alleging that the TMC is now killing its own people and making the situation worst. To the contrary, Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday criticised the whole tragedy where eight people were charred to death. Follwups on this unfortunate tragedy are awaited.
