The new film Kerala Story, which has been released on the 5th of May has
created a big impact on Kerala and Indian politics. Basically ‘The
Kerala Story’, produced by Vipul Shah, shows how a group of women
were allegedly forced to convert to Islam and recruited by the ISIS
terror group. The movie stirred a political storm with the Opposition
parties alleging that 32,000 women joining ISIS is an exaggerated figure.
And all these incidents are based on true events. But the amazing thing
is that before its releasing many famous politicians and celebrities and
many famous directors calling this film a propaganda film. Even many
politicians demanding to banning this film before its releasing. And
even President of Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners
Association, M Subramaniam, popularly known as Tiruppur
Subramaniam, confirmed the news that the few multiplexes that had
shown the film had decided to withdraw it.
“The film was only shown in a few multiplexes owned by pan-India
groups, mostly PVR. Locally-owned multiplexes had already decided not
to show the film, as it did not have any popular stars. But it has
received support from leaders of the governing BJP, including Prime
Minister Narendra Modi who praised it at a recent political rally. Some
party members have also hosted screenings and distributed free
tickets. But some political parties like TMC, INC and DMK along with
some Muslim political groups have been protesting against the movie.
West Bengal was the first state to ban ‘The Kerala Story’. In a
notification, the government said it has prohibited the movie’s
screening to avoid, any incident of hatred or violence to maintain law
and order in the state. And even in Tamil Nadu state, an association of
multiplex owners said they would stop screening the film. While the
movie faced obstacles in Opposition-ruled states, it received tax reliefs
in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Prades
