Ten Interesting Facts About F.R.I.E.N.D.S That You May Not Know!
Let’s just agree that we all had watched or should I say binge-watched entire series of Friends at some point in our life, and can we all agree that this is probably the best sitcom that ever made in Television Industry?
Let’s look at some Interesting facts that you may not know about F.R.I.E.N.D.S-
1. The Cast Could Have Been Much Different.
It’s hard to imagine anyone to play ‘Friends’ onscreen other than the perfect six of Jennifer Aniston, Mathew Perry, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kurdrow but it would have been completely different cast if all the pieces did not fall into right pieces. At one point both Kathy Griffin and Jane Lynch were auditioned for the part of Phoebe.
Same, Jon Favreau and Jon Cryer were considered for the role of Chandler and Joey and Courteney Cox the most famous cast member before Friends, was originally supposed to play Rachel but she requested the role of Monica because she liked the “Strong” character.
2. The cast went on a Vegas trip before the show aired.
Director James Burrows wanted the real chemistry between the cast, he brought the six cast members to Vegas because “he had a feeling about the show if done right.”
3. Lisa Kudrow hated playing the guitar at first.
“I didn’t like the guitar. I wasn’t getting it. So I think I even asked, ‘What if she plays the bongos?’” that’s what Lisa Kudrow said in one interview. However, the showrunners ended up bringing a guitar teacher in, but that didn’t last long. Kudrow learned a couple of chords, then announced that she was done with the lessons. She decided that Phoebe would only know a handful of chords anyway.
4. Many people thought Chandler was gay, including cast members.
Lisa Kudrow said in an interview that she was surprised to hear Mattew’s interpretation of Chandler at the first table read as she thought Chandler was supposed to be gay. We are sure that she wasn’t the only one who speculated about Chandler’s sexual orientation, we thought the same too, right?
5. In “The One Where Old Yeller Dies”, thanks to a chatty kid a few takes were messed up.
The plot of the episode is that Rachel hears the first word of Ross’s son, Ben. Ross is desperate to hear Ben talk again and spends the rest of the episode trying to get his son to talk. In one scene, Ross says, “It’s Ben and his Dada. Dada. Can you say ‘Dada’?” He’s supposed to be met with silence, but the child actor kept actually responding, “Dada.” Later in the series, Ben was played by Cole Sprouse, who would go on to star with his twin brother in the Disney Channel show The Suite Life with Zack & Cody.
6. Jennifer ‘Rachel’ Aniston almost didn’t return for the last season.
Aniston was arguably turned out to be a most famous cast member by the time show ended, thanks to films like Bruce Almighty and The Good Girl, well her love life with then-husband Brad Pitt didn’t hurt her celebrity status either. In an interview with Matt Lauer in 2004, Jennifer admitted that she had hesitation for returning. “I had a couple issues that I was dealing with,” she said. “I wanted it to end when people still loved us and we were on a high. And then I was also feeling like, ‘How much more of Rachel do I have to me?’” Thanks to the cast members she agreed to return to the show for the final send-off.
7. The only person who wasn’t a fan of the show’s iconic ‘The Rachel’ haircut was Jennifer Aniston herself.
“How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen. What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs? Let’s just say I’m not a fan of short, layered cuts on me personally, so I don’t love revisiting that particular era,” Aniston told Allure
8. The show was never filmed in Newyork Or Las Vegas!
The show has actually shot in Warner Brother studio, Los Angeles. The Friends apartments were, of course, built in an LA studio – but it’s possible to see the block where exterior scenes were shot.
9. The ‘It’ couple was originally going to be Monica and Joey!
Here comes the doozy!The main love interests were originally going to be Monica and Joey, Not Ross and Rachel or Chandler and Monica. Show creator Martha Kauffman said that “They just seemed the most sexual of the characters,” Thank God that didn’t happen!
10. The (real) reunion will not be happening.
Well don’t hope for a reunion, Courteney Cox went on the Late Show with David Letterman where he asked her about the possibility of a reunion. Cox responded, “It’s not going to happen.” She went on to explain that it’s difficult enough for the six of them to get together for a cast dinner, let alone a full-fledged reunion.
Kauffman and Crane have similar views about a reunion. In a 2014 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Crane said, “People say they want it, and the more that we say it’s a bad idea, people [disagree]. But I think if we actually gave it to people, there would be such backlash.”
The closest reunion we got ever was when back in February 2016, when NBC’s tribute to director James Burrows special was aired. This almost-reunion is missing one key player, though — Matthew Perry who was busy that time in London for “The End of Longing,” which marks his playwriting debut.
