Sensational Blockathon from Ashwin-Vihari helps Team India draw against Australia

Rishabh Pant, Pujara and R Ashwin – Vihari’s Blockathon helps India keep series alive with a draw in the third test Between India and Australia at the SCG, Sydney on Monday.

India chasing a mammoth total of 410 runs had 8 wickets in hand to win at the start of Day 5 or play out 98 overs for a draw.

In all scenarios, the equation was in Australia’s favor. However, Pant’s superb counterattack 97, Pujara’s resilient 77, and HanumaVihari and Ravi Ashwin’s grit, bailed India out of crisis and keeps the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020 alive.

Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith was declared the man of the match.

Day 5 began with Nathan Lyon notching the wicket of India’s captain Ajinkya Rahane early, who could only muster four runs.

Rahane’s wicket was a blessing in disguise for India as they promoted Rishabh Pant at No.5 and he displayed his immense hitting abilities and rooms the likes of Nathan Lyon, Hazelwood, and Starc.

India’s second innings lasted 131 overs. This is the most overs batted by India in the fourth innings in a drawn test since 1979.

Cricket Fraternity also responded and congratulated the Indian team for their solid performance on the last day.

The four-match series is still level at 1-1 and the final test match will be played at the infamous Brisbane Cricket Ground from January 15.
