Rahul Gandhi calls Facebook ‘Biased’ towards BJP. Shares a letter to Zuckerberg.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today shared a letter from the party’s office to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg after the Wall Street Journal claimed in their report that Facebook has forgotten to apply hate speech rules BJP members and supporters in India.

On Friday, August 14, an American media agency Wall Street Journal professed that Facebook India is being biased towards Bhartiya Janta Party leaders by not taking any serious action against them for posting anti- Muslim posts on the platform and spreading communal hatred. The report also said that Facebook ignored the matter to avoid fallout with the party. The letter also said that WSJ mentioned Ankhi Das, the senior executive of Facebook India by quoting: “Ms. Das (of Facebook India) has provided the BJP with favorite treatment on election-related issues. “

Rahul Gandhi shared the pictures of a three-page letter on his Twitter handle with the caption saying: “We cannot allow any manipulation of our hard-earned democracy through bias, fake news & hate speech.

As exposed by @WSJ, Facebook’s involvement in peddling fake and hate news needs to be questioned by all Indians. “

Congress’s general secretary, K.C Venugopal signed the letter of All India Congress Committee.

In the letter, Venugopal also said that there should be a “course correction” to the matter by suggesting the following course of action to Facebook Headquarters.

In the first step, the letter said that there should be a high-level inquiry by Facebook Headquarters into the Facebook India leadership team and their operations and submit a report to Facebook Inc. In one or two months and should be made public.

In the second step, it asked them to cross-check and publish the instances of all the hate speech posts posted on the platform by the party since 2014.

In the third step, the letter suggested that Facebook Headquarters shall hire a new investigation team to inspect the internal operations of Facebook India to avoid any interference before the completion and submission of the report.

In the letter, Congress demanded Parliamentary Committee Probe in India to investigate Facebook’s involvement in the largest democracy.
