The race ends here with Newton getting nominated for Oscar
Making its way to Oscars, the political satire movie, ‘Newton’ is India’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film category.
Starring Raj Kumar Rao as a government clerk, Director Amit Masurkar smartly picked up a story revolving around the much-worried about the place in India, Chhattisgarh in an attempt to mirror the harsh reality of Indian political scenario. Pushing aside 26 other entries this year, the movie caught attention from film critics.
While it was hard for Newton Kumar to take elections seriously in the downtrodden area of India but his honest efforts paved the way for International recognition to Oscars.
The self-named Newton’s struggle is that of an honest election officer in an attempt to conduct a free and fair poll in a conflict-hit jungle of Chhattisgarh.
Though visually plain without any entertaining elements, the movie is yet another masterpiece of Indian direction. The movie also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil.
The other acclaimed prizes of the movie include the CICAE (International Confederation of Art Cinemas) award for best film in the forum section and a jury prize at the Hong Kong international film festival.
Over the years, India bagged three Academy Award nominations in the foreign-language category named Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan.
As the clock ticks faster and India is yet to get its first Oscar, now the entire hopes rest with Amit Masurkar’s Newton!
