Proud Moment! India’s Harnaaz Sandhu brings home Miss Universe crown after 21 years.

India’s Harnaaz Sandhu is the new Miss Universe, 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Ms Sandhu represented India in 70th Miss Universe event held in Eilat, Israel. She was presented crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 Mexico.

Before Chandigarh-based model only two Indians won the title of Miss Universe- actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.

On being asked what advice she would give to young women on dealing with pressures they face into their day to day life then she said “The biggest pressure the youth of the day is facing to believe in themselves, to know you are unique and you are beautiful. Stop comparing yourself with others and let’s talk about other important things happening in the worldwide.”

She further added “This is what you need to understand. Come out speak for yourselves because you are leader of your life, you are voice the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that’s why I am standing here.”

In top 5 she was asked “Many people think climate change is a hoax ,what would you do to convince them otherwise?”

Harnaaz impressed all when she said,” My heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems, and it is all due to our irresponsible behaviour. I totally feel that this is the time to take action and talk less. Because our each action could save or kill nature.Prevent and protect is better than repent and repair and thus is what I am trying to convince you guys today.”

Meanwhile, tallking about Ms. Sandhu then she started her journey in pageantry at age of 17. She was previously crowned as Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and was placed at Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters in public administration.

She has also worked in many Punjabi films like “Yaaran Diyan Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttenge.”
