Major mishap averted; Drunk man drives pick-up truck on railway lines, train stopped to save lives

A drunk man drove his pick-up van on railway tracks near Daltonganj in Jharkhand’s Palamu district and fortunately an accident was averted despite his vehicle getting stuck in the tracks. The Tata Amritsar Express, which was scheduled to reach the location where the pickup van was stuck, was alerted and stopped a few kilometres before.

The incident took place late night on Wednesday between Rajhara and Lalgarh railway stations on Barwadih-Son Nagar section of the East Central Railways’Dhanbad division. The driver identified as Ashok Paswan started driving his pick van on the tracks towards Lalgarh after entering through an unmanned crossing.

“The train had almost crossed the up green signal of Rajhara and it would have reached the location in five to six minutes,” a railway official said.

Rail traffic inspector Arvind Kumar Sinha told that the driver was seen with his vehicle struck by passenger train on the opposite line and the passengers alerted the station master if Rajhara station which resulted in the stoppage of the train movements.
