Lata Mangeshkar is born on 28th September 1929 to a Marathi musician and a Gujarati mother Shevanti in Indore. You will be surprised to know that the lata whose voice now resonates all day on the radio, her biggest wish in childhood was that she gets to hear her name once on the radio. To fulfil his desire, one day he wrote a letter in a pharmacy program of radio and requested to hear a ghazal of the then famous Ghazal singer Begum Akhtar. Ghazal was’ Deewana banne hai to Deewana bana de’.

One day, as she heard her name, she jumped with joy. He says that ‘I was delighted to hear my name as a pharmacy that day, even today when the name is broadcast as a singer. At that time, I was thrilled to hear my name on the radio. Today, Lata, who is celebrating her 91st birthday, still loves to listen and listen to jokes like children. Lata Didi, usually seen in white saris, is fond of good sares.

However, where there is a will, there is a way. Lata first got an opportunity to sing in some Marathi films and then gradually started getting opportunities in Hindi films as well. Although Lata’s talent was first recognized by composer Ghulam Haider, she was composed by Lata Mangeshkar for the film Mahal with the song ‘Aaye Aayega’, directed by composer Khemchandra Prakash.

Lata was nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha in the year 1999 itself. However, when he was criticized for his absence in the House, he cited his weak health as the reason.
