Indian rivers which flows to Pakistan will be diverted, says Nitin Gadkari

India’s share of water flows to Pakistan, water of three rivers which flows till Pakistan on which India has full rights under the Indus Water Treaty will be diverted to Yamuna river. Union Minister of Water Resources, Nitin Gadkhari said on Thursday.

This step is taken as one of the reply given to Pakistan for the Pulwama terror attack. The Treaty was signed in 1960 and governs over the rights of India and Pakistan on three of the six common rivers, respectively.

According to the agreement, India has full rights over Ravi, Beas and Sutlej rivers while Pakistan has full rights over Jhelum, Chenab and Indus.

“After partition, three rivers each were divided between India and Pakistan. The water of three which India has full rights was going to Pakistan. But now, we are constructing projects after which the water of these rivers will be diverted to Yamuna. Once this happens, there will be more water in Yamuna”, Gadkhari said in an event on Thursday.

This statement comes after India is listing out all the possible punishment which it can give Pakistan for the Pulwama terror attack which killed 40 CRPF soldiers.
