Harley-Davidson is indeed one of the biggest motorcycle companies and also known of its expensive and stylish motorbikes. However, this high-end American bike manufacturing company is discontinuing its operations in Indian automobile market due to its poor sales in the country and the possibility of less demand in future because of its high price. Around 65 per cent of Harley-Davidson India’s bikes are supplied from smaller capacity bikes of 750cc that are being assembled at Bawal in Haryana.

According to the sources, the American bike makers are going to follow ‘rewire’ strategy, in which they are going to focus on the top 50 markets where the company is doing well, for example, North-American, Europe and Asia Pacific.

“The company is evaluating plans to exit international markets where volumes and profitability do not support continued investment in line with the future strategy.” Harley Davidson said in a statement.

Under Donald Trump presidency, Harley-Davidson India has sold fewer than 2,500 units in the last financial year, according to industry officials. After the exit, Harley-Davidson will be the second, automobile giant to shut down its operations in India after General Motors, which discontinued its production in Gujarat in 2017.

The company has sold only 100 units from April to July 2020 which is the worst ever, according to company officials.
