Gay cricketer couples get huge relief following Australian same-sex marriage approval

Australian women’s cricketer, Megan Schutt is set to marry her partner, Jess Holyoake, after the country voted “yes” for same-sex marriage with an impressive 61.6% voting in favour.

Australia’s premier women cricketer celebrated the ‘Yes’ vote with a tweet. She welcomed the result saying she is now going to plan a wedding with her partner- Jess Holyoake.

Megan Schutt, the right-arm fast-medium bowler tweeted by saying, “It’s a #YES now to plan a wedding, can’t wait to marry the love of my life #ssm #lovewins #marriage equality.”

 

Following the yes vote, sportspeople from Australia took to social media to celebrate the plebiscite’s outcome.

This included the athletes who are openly gay, like the Olympic gold medallist swimmer Ian Thorpe, tennis player Casey Dellacqua, Cross-code star Erin Phillips, who plays basketball as well as Australia rules football league, etc.

Ireland is the only other nation in the world to put the same-sex marriage issue to a popular vote.

Sixty-two percent of the registered voters who responded to the survey favoured the reform according to Australian Bureau of Statistics. Her fans were also very happy for the cricketer and congratulated her after winning the battle eventually. The bill for marriage equality will now be considered in the two-week final session of Australian Parliament that is due to end on December 7.
