A father was taken into custody on Monday morning for hitting his 14-year-old daughter with the pair of metal pliers on her head. The girl called the Childline Helpline 1098, informing them about the physical and verbal assault she has been going through for some time.
Shobha Agashe a social worker said, she received a phone call from a teenager around 11pm on Sunday night. “She was very scared and could not say that her father had hit her and was continuously sobbing on the call. I went to her house on Monday morning, where I found her alone at home. She said the incident took place on January 27 where he was annoyed at her and asked to leave the home and at the end, he hit her hard with a pair of metal kitchen pliers,” Agashe, the supervisor of Childline Helpline said in her complain to the police.
In the complaint filed by the NGO, it also mentioned that the teenager had also called in the month of November that her father would regularly beat her up and abuse her. Agashe further said in her statement to the police that, “when she visited her house the next day, the father heard about the allegations, and the father in his counter said that he asked her to study and help around the house, but she refused to do so. She then promised to obey her father and there will be no complaints in future.”
The Andheri police officer further said that the girl used to live in the hostel, and she lost her mother at a very young age. She told the police that her father used to drink alcohol every day and kept yelling at her ever since she came back from hostel to live with him. For the time being the girl have been shifted to children’s home.
“We have booked him under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means), 504 (insulting someone intentionally to provoke them), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code as well as the relevant section of the Juvenile Justice Act,” said the officer.
