No Fear No Favour

Dev Patel, Emma Stone, La La Land wins big at this year BAFTA awards.

Emma Stones performance in La La Land and Casey Affleck’s work in Manchester By The Sea won them the Best Leading Actress and Actor honour respectively at the 70th BAFTA Awards ceremony here on Sunday.

BAFTA 2017

Stone’s role as an aspiring actress in romantic musical comedy-drama film La La Land, was up against competition from Amy Adams (Arrival), Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Natalie Portman (Jackie).

For the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall here, Stone chose to wear matching trousers under her Chanel dress which had a plunging neckline, guardian.com reported.

Meanwhile, Affleck — who plays a man who looks after his teenage nephew after the boy’s father dies, in Manchester By The Sea — was competing with Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals), Ryan Gosling (La La Land) and Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic).

BAFTA

Indian-origin British Actor Dev Patel won the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in Lion. Viola Davis won the award for the Best Supporting Actress for Fences. In her acceptance speech, she not only took a dig at US President Donald Trump but also expressed her surprise at the inclusion of many actors of colour this year.
