Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announces water bill waiver months ahead of assembly elections
Arvind Kejriwal said the move was an open invite to the people of Delhi to join the mainstream and install water meters. “Only those consumers who have installed meters before November 30 will get the benefit of this scheme.”
The AAP government will now waive water arrears of those who have functional water meters at their homes.A total of 13 lakh people are expected to benefit out of this scheme while the government will also earn Rs 600 crore with streamlined metered water connections, said Kejriwal.
Only people who have functional meters can avail the scheme. The minister said that consumers who are in the A and B categories will get a 25 per cent waiver, category C consumers will get a 50 per cent waiver and individuals in the E, F, G, and H categories will receive 100 per cent waiver on their water bill arrears. He said that there are 10.5 lakh people who come under E, F, G, and H categories.
Those wanting to avail the water waiver scheme will have to install water meters at their houses to benefit and inform the Jal Board about the meters.
Over 13 lakh Delhi residents are expected to benefit from the move, said Kejriwal.
While making the announcement, Kejriwal said, “This is an open invitation to the people of Delhi to join the mainstream and install water meters. This will help us save Rs 600 crore and strengthen the economy.”
