“CSK Star MS Dhoni Files Criminal Case Against Ex-Business Partner for Fraud; Partner Arrested”

Mihir Diwakar, a former business associate of Indian cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni, found himself in legal trouble as he was arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud. This arrest followed a complaint filed by Dhoni himself, alleging various violations of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B. The complaint, lodged at the District Court Ranchi, targeted Aarka Sports Management Pvt Ltd., a company where Diwakar served as a director alongside Soumya Das. The arrest was made by Jaipur police, who accused Diwakar of using Dhoni’s name without authorization to establish a cricket academy in Jaipur.

The crux of the matter revolves around accusations that Diwakar misrepresented his association with Dhoni to set up the academy, despite Dhoni explicitly revoking permission for such use of his name. This case underscores the critical importance of safeguarding intellectual property rights and highlights the serious legal repercussions of exploiting a prominent individual’s name for personal gain. Despite Dhoni’s withdrawal of authorization on August 15, 2021, Diwakar allegedly persisted in operating cricket academies, both domestically and internationally, under Dhoni’s name. It’s alleged that he collected franchise fees for academies such as the MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and MS Dhoni Sports Academy, amounting to a purported fraud of over Rs 15 crores.

Diwakar’s arrest, conducted in Jaipur with his apprehension from Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), followed a prior FIR lodged against him in Jaipur’s Karni Vihar police station on charges of cheating. Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph revealed that the case centers on fraudulent activities related to the establishment of a cricket academy in Dhoni’s name in Jaipur’s Gandhi Path area. This arrest underscores the gravity of the allegations and Dhoni’s determination to address the purported fraud through legal channels, emphasizing the crucial need to protect intellectual property rights and highlighting the severe consequences of exploiting a prominent individual’s name for personal gain.
