Indian visa services in Canada were suspended. Now Canadian citizens will not be able to avail the visa service, that is, they will not be able to come to India. On this, Arindam Bagchi said that visa services will remain suspended till further orders. Canadian citizens will not be able to come to India at present.
He also said that the decision related to visa services will not have any impact on our citizens. A large number of Canadian diplomats are in India, while not as many Indian diplomats are in Canada. In such a situation, more Canadian diplomats will go back, so that this number can be equal.
Bagchi also said that Trudeau has not provided any evidence regarding the allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Contrary to all this, India has submitted many written documents to Canada. Despite this, no action is being taken against the Khalistanis taking shelter there. Trudeau’s statement is politically motivated.
On the current status of visa services in Canada, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that you are aware of the security threats faced by our High Commission and Consulates in Canada. Due to this their normal work has been disrupted. Our High Commissions and Consulates are temporarily unable to process visa applications. We will review the situation on a regular basis.
On the India-Canada dispute, Bagchi said that we are ready to look into any specific information provided, but so far we have not received any specific information from Canada. On our part, specific evidence regarding criminal activities by some people living in Canada has been shared with Canada, but has not been processed.
In response to a question on increasing security at the Indian Consulate in Canada, Arindam Bagchi said that we believe that it is the responsibility of the host government to provide security. We also have our own security arrangements at some places, but it is not right not to discuss it publicly. This is not a fair situation.
