BJP’s decision for President and Vice President will surprise you !
We are almost midway in 2017 and the term of the current Head of the State is about to end in July. Thus, the affair of anticipating the future holder of the highest Executive Post has been set in motion.
In the last more than 6 decades, this post has been held by desirable intellectuals like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. APJ Adbul Kalam and Dr. Zakir Hussain but at the same time it has also been used to award political loyalty in the form of Giyani Zail Singh and even for awarding culinary skills in the form of former President Pratibha Patil.
This time, there are several names which are taking rounds like veteran party leader Murli Manohar Joshi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as top favourites President and Vice President
Informed sources, however, say the names of two other women politicians are also doing the rounds — Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu.
As Sumitra Mahaja is an eight-time MP from Indore, whom Modi picked as the Speaker. She also has good equations with the RSS.
While Jharkhand Governor Murmu, 59, may emerge as a surprise pick too.
A tribal woman from Odisha, she has had an impressive political and social career spanning almost two decades. No tribal has been elected the President.
Murmu’s political career started in 1997 when she was elected as a councillor and then to the Odisha assembly, which once hailed her as the best MLA of the year.
Murmu has actively pursued social causes and played a pivotal role in community uplift in Odisha.
For the position of Vice President, there is a speculation of Lt. Gen (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah, who is currently the Vice Chancelor of Aligarh University. He assumed the office of Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University on 17 May 2012 and will be retiring on May 17, 2017.
