Actor Johnny Depp is all set to receive a lifetime achievement award from the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Spain’s San Sebastian International Film festival on its website praises Depp as ‘one of the contemporary cinema’s most talented and versatile actors” and announced that he will be honoured Donostia Award, which “recognizes outstanding contributions to the film world”
Donostia award will be presented to Depp on 22nd September this year. Interestingly the award is being presented to Johnny Depp amid the ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard where a judge ruled last year that Depp had assaulted her ex-wife on multiple occasions.
For the unversed, the actor has been dropped by Warner Bros from its ‘Fantastic Beasts ‘ amid the legal battle. Johnny Depp’s recent film Minamata, where he plays the role of an American Photographer who had brought the world’s attention to a devastating environmental disaster in Japan, is being continuously delayed amid the ongoing legal battle.
Previously, the Donostia award has been presented to Viggo Mortensen, an American actor, author, and musician who had showcased his directorial debut film ‘Falling’, at San Sebastian in 2020. Stars like Meryl Streep, Anthony Hopkins, Glenn Close are among the notable winners of this award.San Sebastian introduced the Donostia Award in 1986, with acting legend Gregory Peck as its first recipient.
Meanwhile, the 69th San Sebastian Film Festival will run from 17 September to 25 September.
