Most of us just check the mango fruit which looks attractive and yellowish in color that’s it.

Dear readers a shocking news has came into light from Ahmedabad, where mango vendors were mere ripening mangoes artificially with the help of carbide.

With the help of carbide  the mangoes can ripen  in just three days which is why traders rampantly use it. Such mangoes look attractive to the eyes as the skin is a uniform yellow colour but the tissue inside remains raw. Mangoes that are ripened naturally are uniformly ripe.

The effects of carbide is so dangerous that it  can lead to headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, diarrhea and vomiting, said Dr Asha Shah, Head of Clinical Care at Civil Hospital. It can affect the nervous system and the flow of oxygen into the issues.As calcium carbide comes in contact with moisture, it releases acetylene gas which is extremely injurious to health.

On this the Gujarat High Court today asked the state government to take “strict action” against the traders using chemicals to artificially ripen fruits, especially mangoes. A division bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi passed the order orally, taking suo motu (on its own) note of a newspaper report on the practice of ripening fruits, especially mangoes, artificially and before time using chemicals such as calcium carbide or ethylene.
