After a wait of 7 years, Nirbhaya rape convicts to be hanged
After the wait of 7 years, finally, the 4 convicts of the Nirbhaya rape case are sentenced to death. All the criminals will be hanged at 7 am on January 22, the Delhi court issued a death warrant today.
Akshay Thakur Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, and Vinay Sharma were found guilty in 2012 gang-rape, torture and killing of a young medical student in Delhi.
“This judgment will reinforce people’s faith in the Judiciary. My daughter will get justice.” Said the victim’s mother, who has waited for 7 long years for this.
Last month, the Supreme court dismissed the last review of the case filed by Akshay Singh, for the petition filed by the Nirbhaya’s parents for the death penalty.
“I have been running from pillar to post from one year,” said Nirbhaya’s mother.
Other than these four convicts, two more names were involved in the, out of which Ram Singh, the fifth accused, committed suicide and the sixth was released from reform court after three years.
7 years ago, a 23 years old was gang-raped and tortured with an iron rod on a moving bus in South Delhi on 16 December 2012 and was thrown on the streets naked and bleeding, and 13 days later, after suffering from so much pain, she died.
Dismissing the review petition Supreme Court said, “Review petition is not re-hearing of the appeal over and over again.”
