49 Bollywood celebrities wrote an open letter to PM to take strict action against mob lynching
A group of 49 celebs including Anurag Kashyap, Aparana sen, Soumita Chatterjee, and Mani Ratnam has shown their concern on the increasing religious hate crimes and “Jai Shri Ram” becoming a war cry.
They quote Critising lynching in parliament would not do anything but strict action must be taken. They said we are proud Indian who love peace. These cases violate the constitutional rights and people involved in such crimes should be punished as murderers.
Reports of NCRB(National Crime Research Bureau) states that there have been no less than 840 instances of atrocities against Dalit’s in the year 2016. Further, 254 religious identity-based hate crimes were reported between January 1, 2009, and October 29,2018, where at least 91 persons were killed and 579 were injured.
The reports say that in 62% of the cases Muslims are the victims. India being a secular, republic, socialist where all caste and religion are equal, cases like mob lynching in a country like this where people are convicted in the name of Anti-National is an alarming situation for the country.
