“22-Year-Old Patna College Student Beaten to Death by Masked Men; One Arrested”
A 22-year-old student from Patna’s BN College, Harsh Raj, was brutally beaten to death by a group of 10-15 masked men wielding sticks and bricks when he arrived to take an exam at Sultanganj Law College on Monday.
This incident has caused widespread unrest in the city, with protesters demanding justice and the police deploying forces to prevent further escalation.
On Tuesday evening, a Patna College student, Chandan Kumar, was arrested in connection with the murder. According to City SP (East) Bharat Soni, Raj was attacked in the campus auditorium and, despite the absence of CCTV footage, videos recorded by witnesses have been obtained.
Raj’s friends rushed him to PMCH emergency ward, where he succumbed to his injuries. The assault is believed to have roots in a previous clash between two student groups during a college event in August of the previous year, which Harsh’s father, Ajit Kumar, confirmed.
Harsh was preparing for the upcoming Patna University Students’ Union elections and had organized a dandiya night event where a scuffle had occurred. Bihar’s Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Choudhary and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav have condemned the attack, with Choudhary assuring swift action and Yadav criticizing the current state of law and order.
The police, along with forensic teams and dog squads, are thoroughly investigating the case to bring all perpetrators to justice.
