World’s tallest building is Burj Khalifa, U-shape skycrapper in New York could take that position !
This will be the first time in history where an architecture firm is planning to create the longest building in the world – by making it bendy.
Instead of being straight, the proposed 1523-metre-long ‘Big Bend’ is designed in a U-shape.
The construction firm of New York Oiio Studio is considering the tower for Manhattan’s Billionaire’s Row, where space is a premium.
Currently, the tallest building is Burj Khalifa with a height of 2,722 ft in Dubai.If Oiio studio’s the Big Bend is successful, then it would be 389.5 metres longer than the current longest building in the world – the Burj Khalifa.
For now, the Big Bend is merely a design. Oikonomou told English daily he has sent the design to a few developers and is currently seeking investment.
The residential building would be located on the southern border of Central Park, an area that’s known as “Billionaire’s Row” and contains many luxury skyscrapers.
Oikonomou is confident that plans for the Big Bend could move forward since many developers will do whatever it takes to get a better return on investment, he says. In a huge skyscraper that doesn’t take up much space, more people would pay mortgages or rent.
According to Oiio’s website, the design plans to brilliantly work around the New York City zoning laws that create several obstacles for developers, limiting their ability to maximise property height, by focusing on length rather than height
What if we substituted height with length? What if our buildings were long instead of tall?” designers at the Oiio thought. “If we manage to bend our structure instead of bending the zoning rules of New York we would be able to create one of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan. The longest building in the world.”
