Will Abhishek Bachchan follow in the footsteps of Amitabh and Jaya by entering politics? Here’s what we know
Abhishek Bachchan’s entry into politics remains unconfirmed by both himself and the Samajwadi Party.
From reports, Abhishek Bachchan may join Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) and potentially contest elections from the Allahabad constituency. However, it’s important to note that no official confirmation has been made by Abhishek or the party.
The news of Abhishek’s potential entry into politics has generated excitement, especially in Uttar Pradesh. This is due to the fact that Rita Joshi, the daughter of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, who was previously defeated by Amitabh Bachchan, currently holds a seat in Parliament.
In a 2013 interview, Abhishek stated that he did not see himself entering politics, despite his parents’ involvement in the field. He expressed a preference for playing a politician’s role on screen rather than pursuing it in real life.
Amitabh Bachchan briefly ventured into politics in 1984, supporting his family friend Rajiv Gandhi. He successfully contested and won the Allahabad seat in the 8th Lok Sabha election with a significant majority. However, he resigned from his position in July 1987 amidst allegations of involvement in the Bofors scandal. Amitabh Bachchan has previously mentioned that his decision to enter politics was driven by emotions, but he soon realized that emotions had no place in the political arena.
