Today is the day where everyone comes together and tries their absolute best to spread awareness about menstruation, good menstruation hygiene and to bring all of our girls together, so they do not face any barrier just because they bleed naturally.

In short, 28th May marks the Menstrual Hygiene Day. The reason behind choosing 28th May as the Menstrual Hygiene Day is due to the reason that most women’s menstrual cycles are 28 days long on average, and their menstruation periods are 5 days long. The main aim of this day is to make sure that by 2030, we live in a society where periods are not stigmatized and taken as a exclusion factor against women. Along with this, no women or girl faces discrimination is the top priority. For 2021, the theme is “Action and Investment in Menstrual Hygiene and Health.”

Today UN tweeted “Menstrual health is a human right. Yet, menstruation can result in discrimination, stigma & exclusion against women & girls.

With all the stories coming up from bleeding in PPE suits to negligence of menstrual hygiene, It is very crucial to make sure that we as a society talk about this topic and normalize it instead of making it a taboo.

Mensuration should not be taken as a shameful matter and one should be embracing them as it is a part of our body. Lets take the initiative of educating everyone around us including ourselves because a lot of time, we are not sure how our body works. The taboos and stigmatization of it is perhaps more shameful. The supplies are obvious and menstrual is not a disease.

So as once Silvia Young said “Leaders bleed, period.” Let us take hold of our bodies and let us lead our body and periods as we want to. We stay our own leader. Get the most comfortable menstrual product as per your preference, We should take them as something which we are proud of and there is nothing wrong in bleeding or even putting yourself as the utmost priority. Menstrual Hygiene and Health is very important.

Remember to indulge in a good hygiene practice in your menstruation and as well as look after yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. Happy Menstrual Hygiene Day Everyone!
