“Three Indian-Origin Students Killed, Two Others Injured in Georgia Car Accident”

Three American students of Indian origin were tragically killed and two others injured in a car accident in Alpharetta, Georgia. The incident occurred on May 14 on Westside Parkway, north of Maxwell Road.

The victims, all 18 years old, included Aryan Joshi, a senior at Alpharetta High School, and Sriya Avasarala and Anvi Sharma, both first-year students at the University of Georgia. The injured were identified as Rithwak Somepalli, a student at Georgia State University and the driver of the car, and Mohammed Liyakath, a senior at Alpharetta High School.

Alpharetta Police reported that speeding was likely the main cause of the crash, which caused the car to overturn and end up upside down in a tree line. Aryan Joshi and Sriya Avasarala were found dead at the scene, while Anvi Sharma succumbed to her injuries at North Fulton Hospital.

Aryan Joshi was a member of his high school’s cricket team, Sriya Avasarala was part of the UGA Shikaari dance team, and Anvi Sharma was a singer in UGA Kalakaar music group. This tragic event echoes a similar accident in April where three women from Gujarat’s Anand lost their lives in a car crash in South Carolina.

In that incident, the victims’ SUV swerved off the road, jumped across lanes, and collided with trees in Greenville County, highlighting the devastating impact of such accidents on the Indian diaspora in the U.S.
