The Untold Story of Aditi Ashok – India’s first Woman Golfer to finish 4th at Olympics.

India’s Aditi Ashok creates history by finishing 4th in the Women’s Golf Event at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Aditi finished 15 under and needed a birdie in the 72nd hole to have a fight for bronze with Lydia Ko, But unfortunately Aditi fell short and finishes in the fourth position.

Aditi Ashok now joins the elite list of Indian athletes who had finished fourth at an individual event in the Olympics. The list includes big Players such as Milkha Singh. PT Usha , Dipa Karmakar , Gurucharan Singh and many more. The World No.200 Aditi Ashok has proved her mettle and glorified the sport – Golf in India.

For the unversed, Aditi Ashok was also the first female golfer to represent India in Olympics, back in 2016. A medal was missed on Saturday but the brilliance and the grit, Aditi Ashok showed by her performance will be remembered for years.

Who is Aditi Ashok?

Aditi Ashok is an Indian Professional Golfer and Olympian from the southern state of Karnataka. Aditi was born in Bengaluru in 1998 and she started playing golf at the age of five. When she expressed her desire to learn Golf professionally, his father Pandit Gudlamani Ashok took her to the Karnataka Golf Association driving range.Her parents had always supported her and in fact, they have been her caddie simultaneously for the second consecutive time.

Her father was her caddie in the Rio 2016 Olympics and her mother Maheshwari Ashok was her caddie in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Aditi made her mark on the golf course early qualifying for the Asia Pacific Invitational Tournament at the age of 12. She won the National Junior Championship for three years in a row 2012, 2013, and 2014. She also became the only Indian Golfer to play at the Asian Youth Games, The Youth Olympics, and the Asian Games.

In 2016, Aditi Ashok became the first and the youngest Indian to win the Lalla Aicha Tour School and secured her Ladies European Tour card for 2016 season. This victory also made her the youngest winner of a Q School for an international tour. In the year 2016, Aditi won the Hero Women’s Indian Open title and also became the first Indian to win a Ladies European Tour Title. She picked up her second win two weeks later at the Qatar Ladies Open and also finished the season second on the Order of Merit.

In 2017, Aditi became the first LPGA player from India, and finished eighth in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year standings. Aditi was also victorious in Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in the same year.

In 2018, Aditi Ashok recorded a career-best T6 result at the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic and tied her career-low score of 64 at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. In 2019, Aditi made 13 cut out of 22 LPGA Tours with the best season finish of T13 at CP Women’s Open. She ended the year with back-to-back two second places finishes on the Ladies European Tour.

From being the first female to represent India back in 2016 at the age of 18 where she finished at 41st position to now being fourth at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Aditi Ashok’s heroics will remember forever.
