The Sanskari Chief, Pahlaj Nihalani, Sharply Objects About Reports On The Govt’s Plans To Sack Him

On Tuesday, The Times of India reported that the I&B Ministry was planning to sack CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani, after a series of embarrassing situations that Nihalani has put the Board into.

Citing sources, TOI reported that Nihalani has been told about a possible replacement and Prakash Jha, Chandraprakash Dwivedi and Madhur Bhandarkar are among those who are in contention for the job.

However, in a recent interview with The Quint, Nihalani said he hasn’t heard anything about the sacking from the government.

He said, “Haven’t heard anything. I am sure my well-wishers are holding their breath. But they can exhale for now. As far as being asked to relinquish my post as the CBFC chairperson is concerned, I leave the decision entirely to the government. It was they who asked me to take over in January 2015. If now I am asked to leave, I’d do so just as swiftly, wishing my successor all the best.”

Nihalani also said that he has brought transparency into the system.

“We eliminated corruption,” he said.

However, this isn’t the first time reports such as these have emerged. In November 2015, Mid-Day reported that Nihalani is likely to be sacked, after the controversial CBFC chief made a tribute video for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, that too, turned out to be a false alarm.
