Chandigarh University Case: DIG spokes to the protestors

19 September 2022 (New Delhi): Protests erupted at Chandigarh University in Mohali after a girl was accused of leaking personal videos of her fellow students online. Protesting students claimed that the girl filmed female students taking a bath in the hostel. Within minutes the video went viral on social media. The protesting students also claimed that after the videos went viral, a girl who lived in the hostel attempted suicide. However, police denied the claims of the suicide attempts.
What has the investigation revealed so far?
According to the police investigation, they found only one video of the accused herself. “We discovered that there is only one video of the accused. She has made no other videos of anyone else. Electronic devices and mobile phones have been seized and will be subjected to forensic examination.” Mohali SP stated.
The DIG gave his assurance to the protesters
Protests over alleged “leaked objectionable videos’ continued at Chandigarh University. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) GS Bhullar spoke to the protesting students late Sunday night, attempting to appease them by saying, “Implicit faith is required” and “Law is being followed. We will keep coming to you. Implied faith is necessary,” Harjot Singh Bains, the Punjab School Education Minister, had urged Chandigarh University students to remain calm and assured them that the guilty would not be spared.
Two convicted have been arrested
On Sunday, one person was arrested and another was detained in connection with allegedly leaked objectionable videos of Chandigarh University students. The arrested accused has been identified as Sunny Mehta. He belongs to a local village in the Rohru Sub Division of Shimla district. The detained person has been identified as 31 years old Rankaj Verma
