Sri Lankan President Flees, PM Wickremesinghe Resigns Amid Huge Agitation Due To Economic Crisis

July 9, 2022 (New Delhi): Sri Lanka’s beleaguered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his official residence in the capital on Saturday after agitating protesters demanding the leader’s resignation attacked the president’s official residence. The island of 22 million people is struggling under a severe foreign exchange shortage that has limited essential imports of food, fuel and medicine. After President Fled Away due to pressure erupts from the nationwide protest, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told the party leaders that he is willing to resign as Prime Minister of the nation and make way for an all-party government to take over.
Amid the chaos, horrible and shocking videos emerged of suitcases being loaded on a Sri Lanka Navy ship. Sri Lankan media claims that the suitcases were of President Rajapaksa. The visuals show three men carrying large suitcases onto the ship SLNS Gajabahu. The three men are in a hurry and can be seen running in the video.
The Harbour Master at the Colombo Port said that a group boarded the SLNS Sindurala and SLNS Gajabahu and left the port,” News1 Channel reported. Sri Lankan PM announced his resignation to make way for an all-party government to take over. “To ensure the continuation of the Government including the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Government. To facilitate this I will resign as Prime Minister,” he wrote on Twitter.
