Balkaur Singh, the father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has leveled accusations against the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government, alleging harassment following the birth of their second son. The family joyously welcomed a baby boy on Sunday, marking nearly 22 months since Sidhu Moosewala’s tragic demise in Punjab’s Mansa district.

In a video message shared on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram on Tuesday, Balkaur Singh expressed his grievances, claiming that the Punjab government was subjecting them to scrutiny regarding the “legality” of the newborn. “Due to the blessings of Waheguru, we got our Shubhdeep (Sidhu Moosewala) back,” Balkaur Singh stated in the video. “However, the government has been harassing me since morning, asking me to furnish documents of the baby. They are questioning me to prove that this child is legal.”

Balkaur Singh further appealed to the government, especially Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, to halt the interrogation until his wife’s treatment concludes. He reassured cooperation, stating, “I belong here and will come to any place you call me (for questioning)… I will provide all the legal documents.”

Opposition leaders, including Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, condemned the alleged mistreatment by the Punjab government towards Sidhu Moosewala’s family. Warring urged the state government to desist from harassing the family, emphasizing the need for them to experience happiness during this time.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also expressed shock over the allegations, criticizing the administration led by Bhagwant Mann. BJP spokesperson RP Singh described the situation as “very shocking” and questioned the government’s actions, particularly directed at the Chief Minister, asking, “CM Maan Sahib, How low you can stoop.”

Media reports indicated that Moosewala’s mother underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive the newborn child.

Sidhu Moosewala’s Killing

Sidhu Moosewala’s tragic killing remains a painful memory for the family and fans alike. He was fatally shot by six assailants in Punjab’s Mansa on May 29, 2022. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating his murder has filed multiple chargesheets against 34 accused, linking the incident to a series of retaliatory killings between rival gangs. Despite substantial progress in the case with arrests made, the family continues to grapple with the loss while navigating legal and administrative challenges.
